Dog Training Classes

Peninsula Pups is more than just a daycare! We also offer obedience classes led by our Certified Dog Trainer, Colin Keith. Colin works in the daycare during the week and is an expert in dog behavior. He was schooled at Tarheel Canine Training in Sanford, NC and has over 20 years of dog training experience.  Colin is excellent at teaching you and your dog how to speak the same language. The commands learned are just a bonus though. The real reward is the special relationship that is built between you and your dog when you train together.

Freshman Class

This class is for puppies under the age of six months.  Socialization and basic obedience are the main focus, such as sit, stay, come, leave it and walking on a leash.  Common puppy issues like potty training and nipping are addressed as well.  Begins Mon, June 18 at 7:15pm OR Sat, July 14 at 10:00am; $129 for eight weeks.

Sophomore Class

This class is for dogs over the age of six months that have not had any formal training.  Basic obedience is the foundation for this class, learning commands such as sit, stay, come, leave it and walking on a leash.  Begins Thu, June 21 at 7:15pm OR Sat, July 14 at 11:30am; $129 for eight weeks.

Junior Class

Must have passed Freshman/Sophomore Class or equivalent.  This class takes basic obedience and applies it to real life situations, for example, teaching your dog to sit and stay with numerous distractions.  Higher level commands are also learned such as heel and finish.  Begins Sat, June 23 at 2:30pm OR Wed, July 18 at 7:15pm; $129 for eight weeks.

Senior Class

Must have passed Junior Class or equivalent.  This class focuses on fine-tuning learned commands from previous classes.  It also prepares you and your dog to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog tests.  The class size will be small for individual attention in this focused class.  Begins Fri, June 1 at 7:15pm; $149 for eight weeks.

After School Special

Must have passed Junior Class at Peninsula Pups.  This class is for parents who want to focus on a few specific commands or behaviors that their dog has not mastered.  Colin will work individually with you and your dog in a class setting.  The class size will be small so you and your dog can receive the attention you’ll need for this special class.  Next class will be in Fall 2018 or Spring 2019; $129 for six weeks.

Advanced Placement Off-Leash Class

Must have passed Junior Class at Peninsula Pups.  This class is for parents who want to take their relationship with their dog to the next level.  Commands such as leave it, come and walking will be learned off-leash.  Class will be held outside in a fenced area at the Humane Society.  The class size will be small and Colin must approve enrollment.  Begins Sat, July 14 at 4:00pm; $129 for six weeks.
